Andy’s Pure Food

March 26, 2009

On my way home from Yonkers NY today I used the great iPhone app, VegOut and decided to check out Andy’s in Rye NY.

Walked in to a fantastic looking, clean, well lit little joint in a very Westportish type neighborhood.
Andy’s is all vegan with a lot of raw options, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, juices, ice cream, cakes, and breads. They also have some staple snacks and groceries too. Ice cream cooler was there, but sadly, contained nothing.

They also had a really nice looking buffet as well as a cooler with chocolate and cake.

I ordered up two sandwiches, the first, a Sundred Tomato Cheese Sandwich. Nice, stuffed sandwich with a Sundryed Tomato spread, Vegan American Cheese, Tomatoes, and some mixed greens. All this inside a nice whole grain bread.

Second was a Almond Hummus-Spread Sandwich. I was actually pretty dissapointed with this little guy. NOT stuffed, and not very flavorful. The almond spread couldn’t be tasted, and was probably due to being a very thin spread, especially compared to how the sundried tomato was applied. Mixed greens and tomatoes rounded the sandwich out, stuffed between a tasty Sunflower Sprout spread.

I wish I had enough $$$ to grab a smoothie, but the $7.95 sandwiches (each), ate up my $20 rather quickly.

All in all, a rad little place that is RIGHT off exit 20 on 95. I will be back, probably frequently.

Check em out at Andy’s Pure Food or stop by at 46 Purchase St in Rye NY

Strobist

March 3, 2009

So after recently getting a sweet deal on a Canon EOS 10D Digital SLR Camera, I’ve gotten hooked on the Strobist website/blog run by the awesome David Hobby.

What is Strobist? In a short summary…
This website is about one thing: Learning how to use off-camera flash with your dSLR to take your photos to the next level. Or the next ten levels.

Im still reading up on the Lighting 101 on his site, but have started to dabble in off camera lighting a little and thought I would post some pics!

First Pic:
Strobist
Running a SB-28 Flash directly behind subjects neck, triggered by Quantum Radio Slave 4 Wireless Trigger. Second SB-28 is mounted on my hot shoe directly on my 10D.

The Flash’s could both be turned down a bit and my setup could have better, but I was short on time and energy.

Second pic:

Once again, Running a SB-28 Flash directly behind Laptop screen, triggered by Quantum Radio Slave 4 Wireless Trigger. Second SB-28 is mounted on my hot shoe directly on my 10D.
I flipped the image horizontally and generally like this image. Its a cool effect (glowing apple), that sometimes in the daylight proves to be a pain when using my PowerBook.

More to come.

If anyone wants a free head shot/body shot and could spare some patience, I’d love to do some shooting using off camera lighting.

And as always, photos can be found at my Flickr page.
